Ask Jeeves Review

I believe the point of this episode was to fit in every murder mystery cliche they could. That's the only explanation I can come up with for the suspicious butler, hidden rooms, disagreeing/cheating relatives, and all those conveniently placed weapons. The girl locked in the attic for life and eventually committing murder might not be a cliche, though. However, the idea of someone having an illegitimate child and hiding them is. It's just normally I think they put them up for adoption, rather than locking them up. It's probably because she's a shapeshifter and they couldn't have that getting out.

Right from the moment they released the episode synopsis, I thought the brothers were walking into a trap. I mean, they had to realize how suspicious a random heiress they've never heard of is. Hopefully, Dean did at least basic internet research on this woman to make sure she had an obituary or something. I believe this is a common scam in real life where they try to get you to give up your bank info so they can supposedly transfer a large sum of money into it. In this case, it would be an easy way to get Sam and Dean into a secluded spot in small-town Connecticut so they could be taken out. Or least try to take them out, since the brothers are pretty experienced and would probably smell a trap.

I went though like two or three different things that I thought the villain was before they realized it was a shapeshifter. First, I thought it was a ghost, then a group of ghosts, then for some reason I thought it was a curse. The ghost thing would be fairly obvious to any Supernatural fan when they saw someone come back from the dead. The problem, of course is the fact that there seems to be more than one of them. Now, the place could just be haunted, but what's the chance of an old ghost showing up suddenly when his wife dies? The husband had never been a ghost before, not unless the butler really did know something. I forget why I thought it was a curse, but it would have been one that affected anyone trying to cheat inheritance or family money. Or possibly just kill everyone if the one woman dies or they all gather together under one roof.
