Captives Review

So a lot of people suspected that the ghost in this episode would be Kevin. Turns out they were right. There doesn't seem to have been much point in bringing Kevin back other than pleasing fans. Yeah, the boys rescued his mom, but they could have done that any number of ways. They could have been tipped off by another demon about humans being kept hostage. The only thing the Winchester side of the episode did accomplish was tipping us off to the pipeline to heaven being closed.

It's interesting that no more souls are getting into heaven just because the angels are gone. I thought the responsibility of guiding souls into the afterlife belonged to the reapers. Perhaps with the system broken, the reapers are all doing their own thing. I can actually see an opportunity for the demons to encourage reapers to bring all these stranded souls to hell. The demons could use this to increase their own power by adding more souls. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that the angels and demons are oblivious to this problem. We've seen more of the angels recently, and from what I can tell, they're either A) oblivious, B) don't care, or C) unable to do anything about it. If the demons were aware of the issue, I'm sure they would be attempting to steal the supply of souls.

I'm really not sure where all this angel faction stuff is going. It's obviously not that important to the plotline, seeing as the writers haven't spent much time on the issue. It's probably going to lead into something (2014!endverse perhaps?), but at this point, there isn't enough information to tell. It's possible that most of the angels are simply going to kill each other off, leaving the demons in power.

I'm guessing we're not going to see much more of Mrs. Tran. She's not likely to get much more than one appearance later on. The writers are probably going to either kill her off or just never mention her again. If they do kill her off, they might just do it off-screen. However, since they already did that once and then brought her back, they'll likely make her next death final.

Catching Fire Behind-the-Scenes Pics

Lionsgate has released two behind-the-scenes pictures from the set of Catching Fire. The movie is due out on Blu-ray and DVD on March 7th.

Sean Faris Cast in Tribes

Deadline is reporting that Vampire Diaries star Sean Faris has been cast as Julian Durant in the upcoming Supernatural spin-off. Julian is set to be a werewolf in one of five monster families that run Chicago. The pilot for the series airs as an episode of Supernatural on April 29th.

Doctor Who Lego

Lego has recently started accepting Doctor Who-based submissions to its CUUSOO project. Previously, there had been licensing issues that prevented them from accepting such submissions. Apparently, they have now cleared up these issues with BBC Worldwide. Whether that opens the door to Doctor Who Lego sets remains to be seen. However, fans are free to submit their own ideas for sets and see if they can get the 10,000 likes necessary for production.

Samuel Anderson to Join Cast of Series 8

The BBC have announced that actor Samuel Anderson will join the cast of series 8. Anderson will play Coal Hill School teach Danny Pink. He had this to say on the matter
I was so excited to join Doctor Who I wanted to jump and click my heels, but I was scared I might not come down before filming started! It’s a quintessential part of British culture and I can’t believe I’m part of it. It’s an honour to be able to work alongside Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman and I can’t wait to show people how my character becomes involved with such a fantastic duo!
Moffat added
For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!

Supernatural Renewed for 10th Season

The CW has announced the renewal of several programs, including Supernatural
The CW Network has ordered early pickups for the 2014-15 season for its hit series Arrow, Reign, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural, which will be returning for its tenth season next fall. The series pickups were announced today by Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW.

“This season we’ve had great success with our new hit series The Originals paired with Supernatural, giving us our best Tuesday nights in years. The Vampire Diaries is #2 in its time period in the young adult demos, and with Arrow continuing to gain among young men, and Reign growing its time period, we now have strong nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday,” said Pedowitz. “I’m very pleased to announce early pickups for all five series, and let our fans know they’ll have more great drama to look forward to next season.”

The CW’s lineup of breakout freshman hit series The Originals and fan favorite Supernatural has doubled the network’s Tuesday night ratings year-to-year in adults 18-34 (+100%, 1.4 vs. 0.7), grown +150% in adults 18-49 (1.5 vs. 0.6), and gained +88% in total viewers (3.2 million vs. 1.7 million) versus last season. In its ninth season, Supernatural has seen double-digit increases year-to-year in total viewers and all key demos, and recently had its most watched episodes since 2010.

In its second season, Arrow is The CW’s most-watched series (3.9 million), and is #1 in its time period among men 18-34 (1.4). The Vampire Diaries remains the network’s highest-rated show in all key demos in its fifth season, and season to date is ranked #2 in its time period among adults 18-34 (1.8 - tie), and #3 in adults 18-49 (1.8), ahead of ABC and NBC. Season to date, Reign has improved its time period in total viewers (+4%, 2.35 million) and in women 18-49 (+8%, 1.3).

This season, both Arrow and The Vampire Diaries have also seen a 25% jump in digital viewing versus last season, and Supernatural has seen a huge 57% jump in digital viewing over last year. The Originals was also named the most social new series of the fall season by ListenFirst Media.

Ben Wheatley on Series 8 Air Date

Ben Wheatley did an interview with FilmDrunk and briefly mentioned a July air date for Doctor Who
I’ve got two more weeks shooting Doctor Who, which hopefully is going to go in July.
The two parts of his statement ("two more weeks" and "go in July") seem to contradict each other. If they only finish filming two episodes by the end of February, there's no way they're going to have the entire season ready to go by July.

I have no idea how long it normally takes to film two 45 minute TV shows, but they seem to be taking their time. Production on episode 1 started in mid-December and they're still only on the second episode. The only way a July broadcast date is going to work is if they do a split season, and Moffat has already promised they won't be doing that again. Of course, Moffat does lie, but there's no reason to lie about something like this.

Previous reports have indicated a fall air date.
