Hunger Games Mobile Game

Lionsgate has announced that they're partnering with Kabam to produce a Hunger Games role-playing game for mobile platforms. The games will have players act as District citizens trying to "build their alliance, liberate their District, and rebuild Panem." Lionsgate's Executive Vice President of Digital Media, Danielle DePalma, commented
We are so pleased to be working with Kabam to give the fans an experience like they have never had before. Being able to role-play with the mentors straight from the world of The Hunger Games will let fans feel as if they are in the middle of the action.
Unfortunately, the press release contains little information about the game itself, focusing instead on the success of these companies.

Filming on series 8 continued today at Channel View Flats in Grangetown, Wales. Jenna Coleman was on set. I'm not sure if this is still Peter Harness' episode, or if they have moved on to Jamie Mathieson's episode.

Foxes to Star in Series 8

British singer/songwriter Foxes has been cast in series 8 of Doctor Who. According to the BBC press release,
British singer-songwriter Foxes will perform a track and appear in the new series of Doctor Who, which lands this August on BBC One.

Foxes, speaking about her casting said: ‘I can't believe I’m actually going to be in an episode of Doctor Who! Especially as it all came about from a chance meeting. I was playing a gig and got chatting to the show’s production team who’d been watching my performance. I was telling them how much I loved Doctor Who and next thing they invited me to be on it. I couldn’t think of a better place to make my acting debut than on one of the UK’s most iconic shows!’

Doctor Who Might Have Ended in 2010

Speaking at the Hay Festival recently, Steven Moffat said there was a strong possibility that Doctor Who could have ended after David Tennant's run
David owned that role in a spectacular way, gave it an all-new cheeky sexy performance and became a national treasure. And he didn’t do it instantly, he did it over time. So the idea that Doctor Who could go on at all in the absence of David was a huge question. I didn’t realize how many people thought it wouldn’t succeed at all. That was quite terrifying when I found out about it later. I think there were plans maybe to consider ending it. It was Russell T Davies saying, you are not allowed to end it.

Series 8 Confirmed for August

The official Doctor Who Twitter account has just confirmed that the eighth season of the show will start in August of this year. Given that series 7 started after the summer bank holiday, the most likely air date is August 30th. However, series 6b started the week before, so it could be the 23rd. Either way, we're now closer to a confirmed air date for Peter Capaldi's first episode.

Do You Believe in Miracles Review

I totally saw this coming. Right from when they first started suggesting that the Blade was affecting Dean, I knew it was going to turn him into a demon. I didn't realize it would take his death for the effect to be total. We already saw him exhibiting telekinetic powers and super-strength, it was only a matter of time before his eyes turned black.

I was kinda hoping an archangel would show up in this episode. At one point, I thought that ginger angel was going to turn out to be Lucifer. Fans on Tumblr had been posting for while about the 2014!endverse (aka that Croatoan apocalypse we saw in season 5), so I figured it was within the realm of possibility. I also thought that since all the angels had been cast out of heaven, it was possible that Michael and Lucifer had been cast out of hell.

I actually thought Dean would defeat Metatron. My money was on him taking the First Blade and killing him. I didn't think it would happen the other way around. Most of the big bad guys in this show end up getting killed. So far, only Lucifer and Metatron have been locked up. Azazel, Lilith, Eve, and Dick Roman all got killed at the end; it only made sense that Metatron would go down the same way.

We still haven't seen the resolution of the issue surrounding Cas' stolen grace. Metatron said something about how it's burning up. Gadriel also said that Cas would get weaker every time he used his powers. I can only see two solutions to the problem. The first is that Cas somehow gets his own grace back. The second is that he uses the angel tablet or some spell to fix the grace he currently has. If neither of those things happen, it's likely he'll either die or return to human form.

The interesting thing about angel radio is that everyone is still calling it by the name the Winchesters gave it back in season 4. It's never been called anything else. That would seem to suggest that it never had any other name. In 13.7 billion years, neither God nor any of the angels gave their telepathic network a name. It's possible, that as their only form of communication (without the use of a vessel), they never thought to give it one. The fact that it took the Winchesters to give it a name seems to suggest that the angels aren't terribly good with names. That, and that they only call each other by first names. None of the angels have a last name of any sort.

Stairway to Heaven Review

Metatron's plan to turn Castiel's forces was really quite exquisite. He managed to get Castiel's forces, along with the other guy's forces, to join his own. I didn't think those suicide bombers were part of Metatron's forces. I thought they were an independent faction that had broken away from Castiel.

That interrogation in last week's episode foreshadowed a lot of the stuff in this week's story. The angel mentioned both secret forces and a portal to heaven. This week, we got see both what the secret force is doing and the former location of the portal. I think we were supposed to gather that the secret force was the one behind the suicide bombing, but that totally flew by me.

I like how the secret question to the hiding place of the portal was "why is six afraid of seven". Any old human could have gotten that, but most angels aren't well-versed in pop culture. Of course, a human couldn't have gotten in, because they couldn't see the question written in Enochian. Unless of course, they just happened to say "because seven eight nine". There were also the stereotypical razor blades in the wall, which was a nice touch.

I've been wondering why Metatron locked all the souls out of heaven. Did he have to lock everyone out in order to prevent the angels from going back in? The angels can't teleport anymore, so I don't think they could go back to heaven if they wanted to. It's also possible that he didn't realize he was locking everyone out of heaven. I doubt that, though. If he meant to close the pearly gates, it stands to reason that he knew he was closing them to everybody.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the portal to heaven isn't portable. Either that, or it used to be fixed but Metatron found a way to mobilize it. We've seen in the past that there's a door between Earth and purgatory. There's also at least one secret passageway between purgatory and hell. Neither of them were very mobile, so I doubt the back door to heaven is mobile either. One of two possibilities exist. Either Metatron used to information in the tablets to move it, or he's bluffing. I don't know whether he's bluffing about it's existence or the fact that it's portable. A third possibility is that he's bluffing that he knows where it is or can even use it. If it's anything like the door to purgatory, it may only be useful to humans. Angels may be unable to use it.

Frank Skinner to Appear in Series 8

The BBC have announced that comedian Frank Skinner is going to appear in series 8 of Doctor Who
Room 101 host Frank Skinner is the latest name confirmed to guest star in an episode of the new series of Doctor Who this Autumn.

Skinner says: “I love this show. I subscribe to Doctor Who magazine, I’ve got a TARDIS ringtone, a five-foot cardboard Dalek in my bedroom and when I got the call saying they wanted me to read for the part, I was in the back of my tour bus watching episode three of The Sensorites. I am beyond excited.”

He is currently touring the UK with his stand-up show Frank Skinner: Man In a Suit, alongside presenting the Saturday Morning Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio. Skinner previously appeared in the one-off Doctor Who 50th anniversary comedy homage The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot.

Steven Moffat, lead writer and Executive Producer, says: “It's no secret that Frank’s been pitching vigorously to get into Doctor Who for a while. He’s been volunteering to be “third monster on the left” as long as I’ve been in this job. But now, in Jamie Mathieson’s sparkling script, we finally have a part that can showcase all of Frank’s famous wit and charm. Hopefully he’ll get out of my garden now.”

The episode is written by Jamie Mathieson (Being Human, Dirk Gently), directed by Paul Wilmshurst (Strike Back, Combat Kids), and also stars David Bamber, Daisy Beaumont, Janet Henfrey and Christopher Villiers.
